About this Event
The evening will feature one of the ensemble's hallmarks: their very diverse interpretations of a wide range of jazz genres, including songs from the famous standards repertoire. Expect plenty of foot-tapping, up-tempo material, (Jazz Beatles + quality rock 'n roll) and more modern modal jazz (Chick Corea), folk jazz (Scarboro' Fair), a jazz-classical piece (Andy Scott's 'Everything is Still'), and post-bop instrumentals with harmonized vocals.
Claire Jones trained at the Guildhall School of Music and went on to develop a fine jazz voice and a keen ear for jazz language. She has sung in various jazz ensembles including Pressure, Stormy Weather and Language Games and has performed at many jazz venues in the South East including the Vortex and the ‘Outside In’ festival.
She “blends the voice into the fabric of the music, improvises and bends notes like an instrument, a trick only the most vocally blessed can achieve”.
