About this Event
The Victim Offender Reconciliation Program (VORP) began in Fresno County in 1982 as the first of its kind program to provide a restorative approach within the juvenile justice system. The goal of the program is to restore and heal the relationships between the parties harmed and the party that have caused the harm. This is done through a restorative mediation process that allows both parties and their support people the opportunity to express their experience of the incident, and the impact and identify efforts towards healing. Rather than the punitive approach, this process puts emphasis on relationships and the healing that can happen when individuals come together to repair harm and community.
This training will provide valuable insights and skills for conducting family group conferences and victim-offender mediations. In addition, the training will support in learning how restorative justice is utilized within the juvenile justice system, provide a training manual, opportunity to practice skills using role-playing and hear perspectives from certified mediators.
