Civilian Conservation Corps Black History Nature Walk with Cincinnati Parks

Nearly a century ago, America was in the throes of the Depression. Young men all over the country participated in what became the first national employment movement in conservation - the Civilian Conservation Corps. Here in Cincinnati, there is a little-known story of a camp right in our own backyard. One of the few African-American camps in Ohio, the work the Mt Airy CCC did to forge barren land into a premier city park is evident in the craftsmanship and legacy that lives on in our trails and picnic areas. We'll talk about the history of the city and Parks that led up to making Mt Airy what it is today. We'll view some artifacts and photos and end with a short hike viewing some of the structures they built. Meet at the Oak Ridge Lodge (4700 Oak Ridge Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45223) and after the presentation, we'll take a short drive to the area we'll walk.
