City Walls Detroit Artists Showcase

The City of Detroit General Services Department - Parks and Recreation Division and SpaceLab Detroit invite you to celebrate Detroit City Walls Artists and the work they created to beautify our neighborhoods and rec centers.

Artists will showcase their work at the former workspace of late artist, muralist, and sculptor Charles McGee. You can view and purchase work from one of our many artists - they keep 100% of the proceeds.

Date: Friday, December 5, 2025 | 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm

(We are also planning to extend the exhibition for an additional viewing and sales period on Saturday, December 6, from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm)

We’re truly grateful for the Artist creativity and the beauty they bring to our city through their murals. This exhibition is a chance to celebrate them and their incredible work.

About City Walls:

Launched in summer 2017, the City Walls program is a City of Detroit initiative that transforms public spaces through art. By reimagining city walls, the program celebrates community identity, empowers local artists, and promotes art as a meaningful alternative to blight remediation.

The goals of the program are to highlight the values and the identity of the communities where art work is being created, empower Detroit artists, and to provide a positive cost benefit to the public via art versus the cost of blight remediation. Read more >>

About Design Studio 6:
Design Studio 6 is an interior design studio, creative event space, gallery, and retail shop owned by April McGee Flournoy. The space, once one of two art studios on West McNichols owned by her late father, Charles McGee—an influential figure in Detroit’s Black art scene from the 1950s to 2021—continues his legacy. In 2017, Marygrove College designated the area as the Charles McGee Art District.
