About this Event
We're celebrating Earth Month by taking part in the City Nature Challenge, an international community science effort to identify and document species found all over the world. It’s a bioblitz-style competition rooted in community science where cities or regions are in a contest against each other to see who can make the most observations of nature, who can find the most species, and who can engage the most people.
Join The Nature Conservancy’s Blowing Rocks Preserve team on Saturday, April 25 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. to be a part of this international nature challenge by documenting evidence of life, like plants, wildlife, insects, scat, fungus, and more!
We are grateful to be combining efforts with Soldiers2Scientists for this event.
Exclusive Early Registration for S2S attendees is available March 27 - April 3.
Registration opens to everyone on April 4, including S2S and members of the general public.
No experience is necessary.
TNC will guide you through preserve trails and show you how to participate. Explore mangrove wetlands and martime hammock habitats to collect observations through photos or sounds on this coastal barrier island.
All ages welcome, recommended for adults and youth ages 8 and up. *All youth 17yo and under must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
We recommend downloading the iNaturalist app or iSeek app (kid version), in advance, on a device that you'll be bringing with you to the bioblitz. This will help you document and identify the species you encounter.
*Light to moderate physical activity.
Please be prepared to navigate approximately 0.5 mile of sandy, uneven terrain in outdoor conditions with the possibility of biting and stinging insects. Please come prepared for the Florida heat, sun, and insects by wearing sun protection and bug spray if necessary. Please bring proper supplies to protect your device from water.
ADVANCE REGISTRATION REQUIRED.
Not associated with Soldiers2Scientists and don’t want to forget about this event? Click “Follow” on the Blowing Rocks Preserve page to be notified when public registration opens.
*Registration will close on Thursday, April 23 at 11:59 p.m.
ALL REGISTERED PARTICIPANTS WILL RECEIVE A CONFIRMATION EMAIL/PHONE CALL THE WEEK OF THE EVENT TO CONFIRM YOUR SPOT(S). IF THERE ARE LESS THAN 10 CONFIRMED ATTENDEES, THIS EVENT MAY BE CANCELLED.
