Jubilee Park | Hamilton, WK
During Conservation Week, join us for a family-friendly biodiversity day at Te Papanui / Jubilee Bush. This event is all about raising awareness of urban biodiversity through education, interactive stalls, and hands-on stations for tamariki and adults.
Kirikiriroa is home to more wildlife than most people realise. Native birds, lizards, insects, plants, and even pekapeka (our native bats) are living alongside us in our parks, gardens, and backyards. This event is a chance to slow down, look closely, and learn more about the species that share this city with us.
On the day, you can:
– Visit educational stalls and learn about native and invasive species
– Explore Te Papanui / Jubilee Bush and the surrounding park
– Join guided walks and species spotting
– Meet local groups working to protect biodiversity in our region
– Learn simple things you can do at home to support native wildlife
As part of the iNaturalist Nature City Challenge, we’ll also be recording the species we find throughout the day. Helpers will be around the park to show you how to use the iNaturalist app to photograph and record plants, animals, insects, and fungi. These observations contribute to real scientific data and help build a picture of biodiversity in Kirikiriroa and the wider Waikato.
Please download the iNaturalist app before or at the event:
