About this Event

Now in its eighth year, the City Nature Challenge has grown into a worldwide friendly competition between cities to document as much urban biodiversity as possible by uploading the most observations to the iNaturalist platform.

We are participating in this super fun event by hosting a one day bioblitz at Heron's Head Park on Sunday, April 28th from 9:30-11:30 am. Our focus will be looking for wild Olympia oysters along the shoreline and any other cool creatures of the subtidal. Participants will also have a chance to view the new artificial oyster reef that is creating new habitat for oysters and other creatures.

We will convene next to the small parking lot by the EcoCenter at 9:30am. We will talk a little bit about what the City Nature Challenge is and what we do at the Wild Oyster Project and then head out on the trail! We well reconvene at 11:00 at the picnic tables to talk about what we found.

You don't have to be an experienced naturalist to participate! All you need is your enthusiasm! Although we do recommend you have downloaded the iNaturalist app prior to the event.

We will be out walking along the shore so we recommend wearing clothes and shoes that can get dirty. The weather can be fickle so please bring layers, sun protection, and water. Feel free to pack a lunch to eat after the event while enjoying the beautiful water views.
