City Highlights Guided Walking Tour (Weekdays Nov and Dec )

Join one of Winchesters official tourist guides for this 1½ hour walking tour of the city.

The City Walking Tours provide an ideal introduction to Alfred the Great's city and the ancient capital of England.

The route varies but will include a selection of the following:

The iconic statue of King Alfred, the historic High Street and West Gate, the Great Hall with its Round Table and connections to King Arthur, the site of Winchester Castle and King Charles II's Royal Palace, the River Itchen, the ruins of Wolvesey Castle, the exteriors of Wolvesey Castle, Jane Austen's house and Winchester Cathedral.

In the run up to Christmas the tours will have a Christmas flavour to coincide with the Christmas Market.

The tour will take place rain or shine so please dress appropriately and wear suitable footwear. Tours will leave the Visitor Information Centre promptly.

Dogs on leads are generally welcome on the tours but if you are considering bringing a dog, please do contact the VIC before booking to ensure that the tour leader is happy with the arrangement.

The City Highlights tour will run from weekdays from 1 November to 23 December 2024 at 2pm. There will be Upper and Lower City tours running on Saturdays and on some Sundays.

Pricing:

Adult Ticket - £11

Child Ticket - Free for under 16s. You will need to undertake a separate second transaction to the one used to purchase the adult tickets in your group. When booking for the children select the number of children's tickets you require under general admission category, enter the promotional code CHILDFREE and click apply. This allows the tickets to be purchased for free. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Carer Ticket - Tickets for an essential carer are free. You will need to undertake a separate second transaction to the one used to purchase the other tickets for your group. Please select one ticket under general admission category, enter the promotional code CARERFREE and click apply. This allows the tickets to be purchased for free.

Tickets will be available to purchase online until 9am on the day of the tour.After 9am on the day of the tour, any remaining tickets will be available to purchase from the Visitor Information Centre on a first come, first served basis.
