CITIZENS REVIVAL Free Community Screening
About this Event
Citizens Revival (citizensrevival.com) celebrates the power of ordinary people who contribute to our democracy, demonstrating how hope triumphs over fear and participation wins. Filmed in five communities around the US between March 2024 and November 2024, a group of filmmakers with varied perspectives decided to explore what real people were doing to get involved in their communities, especially in civic matters. Citizens Revival is an educational awareness film first and foremost. Much like democracy itself, it is driven by the people: every participant, educator, public servant, and audience member who engages with it. It doesn't project a point of view. It witnesses, without creating conflict. It shows where windows of opportunities can arise for each of us to be more engaged. The film is accessible to all ages and levels of understanding. The film explores the state of our democracy, largely from the perspective of young people with a focus on education. It’s full of hope, joy, and energy, but also the challenges and obstacles to meaningful participation in our system.
The Mississippi Film Society, in partnership with Mississippi United, is pleased to invite you to a free screening of Citizens Revival on Monday night, October 12th, at 7 pm, at the MALCO Renaissance Cinema Grill in Ridgeland, MS. Tickets are first-come, first-served, and are limited to six per order.
The screening will be followed by a conversation between director Becca Finley and Mississippi United Executive Director Kathleen O'Bierne and an audience Q&A.
