About this Event
Join us for this great opportunity to meet your State Legislators and engage with other Citizens from McDonough and Henry County!
McDonough and Henry County residents are invited to join me at the Georgia State Capitol to learn how state government works, connect with elected officials, and represent our community under the Gold Dome.
An optional early arrival is available for those who want to attend committee meetings and legislative sessions.
You are encouraged to schedule appointments with your legislators in advance. Use this tool to look up your state Senator and Representative, then call or email their Legislative Assistants.

On Your Own β Capitol Experience
Participants may:
- Tour the Capitol
- Meet with legislators (pre-scheduled or informal)
- Observe the General Assembly
- Attend committee meetings
Parking Information:
Public parking is available in several locations surrounding the Capitol. Parking fees vary by lot. Certain lots may be closed due to the legislative session.
The following lots are always open to the public if spaces are available:
- Steve Polk Plaza Parking is located on M.L. King, Jr., Drive, one block from the Capitol
- A surface lot is located on Memorial Drive, one block from the Capitol
- Underground Parking: A parking garage is located on the north side of Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive, two blocks from the Capitol
Transportation:
- Take I-75/85 North to Exit 245 (Capitol Avenue). At the end of the exit ramp, continue straight through the stop sign. At the first traffic light, turn left onto Hank Aaron Drive. (The name will change to Capitol Avenue). The State Capitol is on your left.
Seating:
There are public galleries where you can watch legislators discussing bills in the chambers and meeting rooms, but space is limited.
Signage:
You are allowed to bring poster-sized signs, up to 22-by-28 inches large, inside the Georgia Capitol. A policy adopted by the Georgia Building Authority permits hand-held signs in public areas of the Capitol, excluding House and Senate chambers. Signs attached to sticks remain prohibited.
