Circular Couture: Embracing Sustainable Design and Fashion

The Berliner Hochschule für Technik (BHT) Startup Hub proudly presents "Circular Threads: Embracing Sustainable Design and Fashion," an event dedicated to showcasing the best practices and innovative solutions that harmonize style with environmental responsibility.

On July 2nd, the Beuth Halle at the Berliner Hochschule für Technik will host a captivating exploration of circular economy principles in the design and fashion industries. This event aims to inspire and empower attendees by highlighting the growing relevance of sustainable practices and the potential for creating a more circular future.The agenda promises an engaging and informative experience, kicking off with the unveiling of research project outcomes supported by keynote presentations from industry experts who have successfully implemented circular economy solutions on a large scale. These thought-provoking sessions will provide valuable insights and practical strategies for embracing circularity.Following the keynotes, attendees will have the opportunity to witness the future of sustainable design and fashion through a series of startup pitches and a captivating fashion show. The event will feature two renowned keynote speakers who have made significant contributions to the circular economy movement:

1. Jens Heitland: former Global Head of Innovation at IKEA Centres, is a recognized leader in human-centered innovation and leadership. With an exceptional track record of driving transformative initiatives and advancing global sustainability strategies, Jens specializes in integrating leadership with organizational innovation to create dynamic, impactful businesses that prioritize sustainable change.
   
2. Catalina Panoiu: Senior Open Innovation Manager at HYUNDAI CRADLE – Catalina spent the past 14 years building new ventures and driving sustainable transformation within several global corporations. A passionate scuba-diver and globetrotter, she has lived, studied and worked in 7 countries across Europe, North America and Asia-Pacific. Catalina is a strong believer in sustainable innovation through a combination of smart design, technology and respect for our natural world.

"Circular Couture" is part of the larger A-B-Circular project, which aims to promote climate-neutral production of "Made in Berlin" products in the design/fashion and architecture/construction industries, while closing material cycles. From April 2024 to October 2025, this initiative will develop and implement innovative cooperation and networking formats to facilitate the exchange and implementation of circular economy principles in both sectors. Key activities include the development of two ready-to-use toolkits ("Circularity Builder" and "Circularity Designer"), the organization of events and workshops, as well as presentations at relevant industry events. The project's focus is on linking research results from the Berliner Universities of Applied Sciences (BHT, HTW, and HWR) in the field of circular economy with social and environmental entrepreneurship, leading to the development of a network of solution providers for the respective industries in the capital region and enabling the creation of digital solutions to promote sustainable practices and business models.
