WHEN: Six Wednesdays 7-9 PM | Oct 28 - Dec 9 (no session Nov 25) | + Community Share: Dec 16
Circle Choir is rooted in the spirit of our monthly Singing Circles – freeing the voice, heart-opening songs, and shared reflection. But with the gift of time and continuity, we’ll revisit and deepen into the songs we sing, learn multiple harmonies until they feel satisfying and embodied, and develop a shared musical language as we stretch into the unknown of co-creation.
Each session will include learning layered, harmony-rich songs, often taught orally, call & response style, with occassional use of sheet music as a supportive tool. Songs provide simple melodies for newer singers, with harmony parts that may stretch the seasoned singer. *Learning tracks will also be provided for most songs, to support learning and review.
The songs become our seed bed, with space to grow and evolve into music only this room of singers could create - thick, fruitful, surprising. Between singing, participants will also be be introduced to accessible music theory to support learning by ear, as well as light embodiment and group dialogue to support the power of each song.
Throughout our time, participants will be encouraged to uncover and enter their own musical growth zone. Some examples:
- Growing comfort in and love for ones' own voice
- Learning harmonies by ear
- Step into the circle and shape the music through gesture and embodied conducting
- Holding a harmony and or leading a section
- Trusting the muse as your improvise your own harmony or solo
Any women, transwomen, AFAB non-binary folks (ages 16+) who are ready for this 6-week harmonious journey is welcome. Whether you've been told singing is just for listening, or you're a retired choral director - this series offers you a sanctuary to sing deeply, bravely—together.
