About this Event

This site visit is a rare opportunity to preview the works on the nearly complete ANZAC Station, a key part of the new Metro Tunnel project due to open in 2025.

The Metro Tunnel will create a new end-to-end rail line from Sunbury in the west to Cranbourne/Pakenham in the south east, with bigger and more modern trains, and 5 new stations. Testing is now underway and the full Metro Tunnel will open in 2025.

The new ANZAC Station is strategically placed directly under St Kilda Road near the intersection of Albert Road and Domain Road to ease pressure on the St Kilda Road/Swanston Street tram corridor which is the busiest tram corridor in the world. When open, the statin will service thousands of train and tram users, pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists every day.

Anzac Station has been designed as a ‘pavilion in the park’ – an integrated public building and landmark that connects seamlessly with surrounding parklands on both sides of St Kilda Road. The canopy above the tram interchange is an architectural focal point, providing waiting passengers with year-round weather protection. Large skylights embedded in the canopy will fill the station concourse below with natural light. The direct platform-to-platform connection between the train and tram network is a Melbourne first.

The new tram stop is now open so access to the site visit is a breeze and will be our meeting point for the tour.

Site requirements: ALL attendees must wear their own steel capped boots and bring their own hard hat. Metro will provide all attendees high-visibility vests and protective eyewear for the site visit. Failure to comply with the PPE requirements WILL result in refusal of entry. Please do not register for this event if you cannot satisfy the PPE requirements.
