Join the Museum of Work and Culture for Ciné-Québec, an evening of Québécois cinema in celebration of the month of Francophonie on Thursday, March 6. This year, Ciné-Québec will be held at Aldrich House in Providence. The evening will begin at 6pm with a wine and cheese reception followed by a screening of the film Ru.Ru is a drama film adapted from acclaimed Vietnamese-born Canadian author Kim Thúy’s award-winning novel of the same name. The film centers on Tinh, a young girl who escapes Vietnam with her wealthy family following the fall of Saigon. After a dangerous sea crossing and a stay in a camp in Malaysia, the family is accepted as refugees in Canada, where they begin their new life in Montréal. But for Tinh, adapting has its share of difficulties. Already shy and reserved by nature, Tinh must learn a new language and integrate into her new environment. Haunted by the hardships of the journey, Tinh will have to draw deep within herself to find the resilience necessary for her survival and her happiness.
Ru will be presented in French, with English subtitles.
Ciné-Québec is made possible in part by the event’s generous sponsors: Délégation of Québec in Boston, Brule, Nault & Hainley, Lepine Financial Advisors, RI AFL-CIO, The Brickle Group, New England Laborers, Bourget & Associates, and Wright’s Dairy Farm & Bakery.
