? The Croatian jazz band Chui will take you on a journey back to 1920s Berlin with their live soundtrack to Walther Ruttmann's silent film "Berlin: Symphony of a Great City"!?️ "Berlin, Symphony of a Great City" (Berlin. Die Sinfonie der Großstadt, 1927) is a timeless portrait of Weimar Berlin and numerous city landmarks that disappeared during World War II. Ruttman (also, co-writer and editor of the film) subtly interweaves documentary scenes with experimental interpolations, while presenting the everyday life of Berlin in an avant-garde manner, with inventive, rhythmic and surprising montage solutions. Influenced by "Rien que les heures" (1926) of Alberto Cavalcanti, depicting 24 hours in the life of Paris, this panoramic view of life in Berlin took more than one year to create. Its execution relied on the Soviet montage school and the expressionism of Dziga Vertov, who in turn was inspired by Ruttmann's work for his own classic "Man with a Movie Camera" (1929).
? Chui is a critically acclaimed Croatian space jazz rock band that revolutionises jazz with a fresh cosmic twist. Drawing heavy inspiration from vintage sci-fi TV shows, movies, and comic books, they have created a distinctive musical style that remains anchored in jazz while boldly exploring other genres.
? Founded in 2012 by keyboard and synthesizer player Toni Starešinić, Chui features Vojkan Jocić, who has been named ‘Best Jazz Saxophone Player in Croatia‘ (six times), along with drummer Ivan Levačić and bassist Konrad Lovrenčić.
