A reforming constitutional lawyer and senator in her early career, Mary held the presidency for seven eventful years, championing women’s rights in Ireland and laying the foundations for the Irish Peace Process.Later, she became UN High Commissioner and is celebrated for fearlessly challenging perpetrators of human rights abuses all over the world. To this day, she exerts power and leadership as the Chair of The Elders: the independent group of global leaders who work for peace, justice and human rights.
