About this Event
CINE:MACA, a new series of four events presented in MACA, creates a platform for filmmakers and audiovisual artists to discuss, share and explore how they develop their audiovisual language and artistic voice within modern day society. This event showcases the Netherlands based students of the Apichatpong Weerasethakul lab 2022
Last summer seven Netherlands based filmmakers went to the South American jungle to participate in the Apichatpong Weerasethakul lab. In ten days they would develop and shoot a short film under the guidance of Weerasethakul, one of modern day biggest cinema masters. Now almost a year later they will be discussing their experience with us and show us the films they made.
After together with filmcritic Hugo Emmerzael and producer Steven Rubinstein they will reflect on what this experience has taught them. What did they learn about their own authorship that they can use in their daily life outside of this jungle pressure cooker? How was the collaborative process and how did it influence their authorship during and after the lav? How was it to work under the guidance of Weerasethakul?
It will be an evening full of inspiration and ideologies on film making and a good start to our session about authorship in the Dutch cinema landscape.
The programme will start at 20:00 and last for about 2 hours. Afterwards the bar of MACA will stay open to facilitate further conversation and discussion. The conversations will be in English and all audiovisual works will be English subtitled (if possible).
