About this Event
CIBSE SA Chapter Members & Guests are invited to a technical presentation on the advancement in electrified heating hot water technology and the decarbonisation of commercial buildings.
Electrified Heating & Hot Water: The Next Step in Commercial Decarbonisation
As commercial buildings move away from fossil fuels, electrified heating and heat pump hot water systems are rapidly becoming a critical part of decarbonisation strategies. This presentation explores the latest advancements in heat pump heating and hot water technologies and how they are being applied in real commercial buildings today.
The session will review available system types, examine how different refrigerants are used to achieve varying hot water temperatures, and discuss the practical limitations faced across design, installation, and operation when delivering high-temperature heat pump solutions. The discussion will also address retrofit constraints and partial/hybrid electrification pathways, where full electrification may not be immediately practical.
Focus will be given to the balance between Coefficient of Performance (COP) and refrigerant Global Warming Potential (GWP), highlighting why efficiency alone is no longer enough.
Attendees will gain a practical framework for evaluating electrified hot water solutions that deliver performance, compliance, and genuine emissions reduction.
