About this Event
These crowdsourced cookbooks, spanning the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, were created by members of Congregational churches, often as part of a fundraiser. This tour will explore what we can learn from these items, including cooking styles from across the country and around the world, and some of the ways women have historically contributed to their congregation’s mission. As a special summer treat, staff will prepare recipes from these tasty (and maybe not so tasty) troves of recipes in a historical potluck.
Held in the CLA’s historic reading room at 14 Beacon Street, these monthly collection tours connect residents of Beacon Hill and the greater Boston region with original, rarely seen materials in the CLA’s collections.
This event will run from 12 to 1 pm and will begin with a short talk by Meaghan Wright, followed by plenty of time for browsing items from our collections and asking questions.
Thanks to the generosity of the Beacon Hill Civic Association, these programs are offered completely free of charge to the public. Reservations are appreciated but not required.
