Since 1990 Chuck Prophet has provided the world with 14th studio albums in his own name. As it isn't enough the 15th is on it's way later this year, his first album since 2017.
"Prophet’s voice exists somewhere along the continuum of Tom Petty’s, Lou Reed’s, and Alex Chilton’s, with his familiar “Come awwwn!” shout when the song is about to jolt into a higher gear. There is a bit of the wide-eyed ingenuousness of Julian Cope, the wit of Harry Nilsson, and the goofiness of Jonathan Richman, coupled with roiling garage band-meets-Stones Telecaster and an eye for odd details. Since his neo-psychedelic Green On Red 80s days, Chuck Prophet has been touring Europe and the UK for forty years with his blend of Alt country, folk, blues, power pop and Brill Building classicism. His last visit to European and UK shores was back in 2023 with rammed venues everywhere, just after finally beating cancer that floored him for much of 2022. Chuck is now back with his first record since 2017 which is due this October takes it’s influence his time from South American Cumbia music. He will be returning with a band for a full European and UK tour just after the release.
Chuck started touring the EU and UK way back in September 1984 when Green on Red plucked him out of Berkeley, CA and flew him over to Europe for his first ever run. The band’s first London date featured another new act, Jesus & the Mary Chain supporting them. Green on Red then put him in the van for an eight-year ride with festivals and over ten UK, EU tours, recording over six albums with them. Green on Red were seminal purveyors of American Roots Rock aka Alt-country and broke up in 1992 just before an entire movement followed in their wake. Since then Chuck has recorded fifteen stellar solo albums and toured and recorded with Lucinda Williams, Aimee Mann, Cake, Alejandro Escovedo and Jonathan Richman. In addition to that, Bruce Springsteen, Ryan Adams, Solomon Burke and Heart have covered his songs. His songs have been put into movies and also now sells out shows across the US. But what Chuck is known most for are his amazing live shows which are second to none.
