About this Event

CHS Spring Camp: Critters in Motion, March 27th - 31st, Grade 1 - 6

Calgary Humane Society Summer Camp is a place where kids connect with animals. Our goal is to provide an opportunity for children to interact and learn about the animals that share our world. An enthusiastic staff of instructors and friendly animals give your child an enriching experience filled with hands-on animal encounters, fun activities, and crafts. As they have fun, campers learn respect, compassion, and how to provide a lifetime of care for animals.

Activities are age and developmentally appropriate. For those campers wishing to attend multiple days of camp, we have a different theme each day, ensuring diverse experiences.

Campers will learn about animal characteristics, behavior and proper pet care as well as meet and pet bunnies, cats, dogs, reptiles, birds, and more!

Theme: Critters in Motion (Grades 1 - 6)

Can your camper jump like a kangaroo? Run like a jaguar? Climb like a cat? Critters in Motion gives campers the chance to move and groove with the animal kingdom! Activities focus on amazing animal abilities and plenty of time for games provides campers with ample opportunity to burn off extra energy. Perfect for campers who enjoy physical games and activities.

May my child attend if they have allergies?

If you’re child’s allergies are minor, controlled by Medic*tion and you’ve consulted your child’s physician, please sign up! Children will be spending limited amounts of time in the animal areas in the shelter and as much time outside as weather permits. Please consult our full FAQ page for more info about peanuts and food allergies.

What is the best way to sign up for camp?

Registrations are processed on a first come, first served basis online through Eventbrite. We cannot hold your child’s space in a camp until we have received payment. If camp registration is full you may add your name to the waitlist, and will be contacted by e-mail if a spot on the waitlist becomes available. No money is processed until your child is registered in a camp.

Once your registration is processed, a confirmation of enrollment will be e-mailed the week before camps begin. Release forms, directions, and other pertinent information are included with confirmations. Signed release forms must be completed and received on the morning of camp. Children may not attend camp without completed forms.

Will my child spend most of the day working directly with animals?

Everything we do at camp is aimed at teaching children about animal care, handling, and welfare. We strive to give our campers an opportunity to interact with several animals each day. However, we are an open-admissions animal shelter which cares for all animals including some that may be sick, injured, and sometimes aggressive. Our ability to have kids interact with animals relies entirely on the types of animals who are in residence during the camp season. Our two top priorities are to provide our campers with a safe experience and to prevent our resident animals from any undue stress. Some animals simply cannot handle the attention of a large group of children at a time, and we endeavor to teach the children to respect the needs of each individual animal. That being said, when a gentle bunny, kid-loving dog, or playful bunch of kittens comes through the shelter, the camp kids are definitely given the opportunity to interact with them. In addition, activities like dog training and animal socializing with guest animal ambassadors are the highlight of the week for many of our campers.

Please note: Activities are age specific. Animal interaction is dependent upon animal health on a day-to-day basis. We cannot guarantee specified types or amount of animal visits.
