Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD): What Every BC Hunter Should Know

Anyone hunting deer in British Columbia should understand Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) and the efforts underway to monitor and respond to it.

Join North Shore Fish & Game for a free evening with Cait Nelson and Kirstyn Falck of B.C.'s Wildlife Health Program. They'll explain what CWD is, where it has been found in British Columbia, why surveillance is so important, and how hunters can play a vital role in protecting B.C.'s deer, elk, moose and caribou.

This isn't just a presentation.

You'll also have the opportunity to learn how to identify and collect the tissues used for CWD testing—including the tonsils, retropharyngeal lymph nodes and obex (brain stem)—so samples can be submitted for testing without necessarily submitting an entire head.

Whether you're a seasoned hunter or new to the field, you'll leave with a better understanding of CWD, the Province's response, and the important role that hunters, the BC Wildlife Federation, its member clubs (like North Shore Fish and Game) and individual volunteers play in helping monitor this disease.

After the presentation, we'll head next door to Dead Frog Brewery for refreshments and conversation. It's a great opportunity to meet the presenters, talk with fellow hunters, and learn more about North Shore Fish & Game.
