Please join us on Friday, December 6, 2024 to celebrate First Friday and the Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at Macon Plaza. The Parks Department has downtown decorated with holiday lights and many merchants have their stores and windows decorated for the season! A number of downtown businesses will be running First Friday holiday specials. The Artists’ Gallery, Fremont Center for the Arts, and Pueblo Community College are all holding artist receptions. You can find out who is participating on the Cañon City First Friday Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/groups/firstfridayscanoncity. Families are invited to meet and take photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus at the library starting at 5:30 p.m. Enjoy a craft activity for kids and families in the Carnegie library while listening to holiday music performed by the Dulcimers. The Cañon City High School Madrigal Singers will be performing a variety of Christmas classics in Macon Plaza and Mayor Preston Troutman will turn on the Christmas Tree lights at 7:00 p.m. There will be food available to purchase by a variety of food trucks. Our famous snowball fight area will be set up with fake plush snowballs and Cañon City police officers ready to dodge them!
The holiday celebration continues on Saturday, December 7th with the Royal Gorge Chamber Alliance’s 35th Annual Christmas Parade of Lights taking place down 5th to 10th Streets of Historic Main Street starting at 6:00 p.m. This year’s theme is “Christmas in Toyland.” Come early to enjoy the Downtown Business Alliance’s Main Street window decorating contest, merchant specials, and food trucks. The Grinch and Elf will also be running around town doing photo ops on First Friday and for the Parade; they will be competing to see who can get the most donations for Fremont Community Foundation’s “Operation Grinch.” It’s going to be a festive weekend full of fun and we hope to see you there!
