9 beautiful properties have been chosen for this year's Christmas in The County House Tour.

Here is a small sampling:

Historic County Landmark - c1846

This impressive stone house surrounded by a dry-stone fence and overlooking the Bay of Quinte is an historic County landmark. Originally part of a farm, the home attracted its current owners who began extensive renovations in 2009 while retaining key features - a stout front door with imposing hardware, a hidden staircase beyond the welcoming foyer, a small main floor corner room known as the “birthing room,” and an original shallow, tiled fireplace that was state-of-the-art heating technology in its time. The home is featured in The Settlers Dream and received the prestigious Elizabeth Murray Award from The County of Prince Edward in 2010.

Loyalist Style Home - c1804

This yellow brick former farmhouse was originally built as a modest, Loyalist - style home by the Cunningham family, Quakers who fled Connecticut during the American Revolution. Local legend states the home was an encampment site for British troops and their captured American soldiers during the War of 1812. For many years, it served as a tenant house for workers at nearby greenhouses. In recent years, its new owners have carefully renovated the home and barn to retain their distinctive features while adding many tasteful touches.

The Story Behind the Prince Edward County Christmas House Tour

The demolition of the old Methodist Church, on Main St, Picton, in 2010, was the catalyst for the PEC Christmas House Tour. The loss of the church, sadly not a heritage-designated building, stressed the need for a plan to help preserve and protect our historic buildings. Proceeds from the sale of tickets support the “Built Heritage Fund”, administered by the County Foundation.
