Come and worship the new born King!Kings have ruled over humanity for most of the known history of the world. As American’s we have fought to not have kings rule over us. The ancient Israelites begged for a king many years after Moses led them out of Egypt. Often, our desire to have a king or someone to lead us comes with the idea that this person or persons will help to save us from poverty, hunger, and just general destruction. Those who oppose a king often do so because they want to keep control for themselves. Either way, we are attempting to replace God with a human. The hard truth is, we DO need a king, just not any normal king. We need a king who doesn’t sit on a thrown, who doesn’t seek to destroy, who doesn’t desire power. We need a king who comes in the form of an infant, who lies in a manager, who comes as a servant for all people, even the shepherds. We need the anointed one (the Messiah).
