Christmas Dance: Embodying The Sacred
Schedule
Thu, 25 Dec, 2025 at 06:00 pm
UTC-06:00Location
The Interchange | Houston, TX
Details: Some of my playlists are easy to describe. This one isn't. I can say that this isn't a Christmas set with kitschy holiday tracks; all the songs are infused with deep spiritual feeling.
Embodying the Sacred was inspired by Gabrielle Roth's Sweat Your Prayers so I'll borrow some of the words from her prologue: "I believe we each hold a spark of the original light of creation within us. I've seen it light up people's faces and bodies when they dance. In a thousand ways it has been revealed to me that God is the dance and we need only to disappear in the dance to liberate the sexual, creative, and sacred aspects of the soul."
Translate her words however you like. The invitation is just to let movement itself be a kind of prayer, grounded in the body and open to whatever you call sacred.
Guidelines for the Dance: These guidelines will also be posted at the entrance and we’ll go over them during opening circle.
We dance with clear heads, without alcohol or drugs, to reach a natural state of ecstasy.
We dance without words to be fully embodied.
We dance without phones or any other electronic devices to be fully present, to enable complete expression, to dance like no one is watching you.
We dance with the most authentic expression of ourselves to feel fully alive and to access the full spectrum of our physical and emotional selves.
We dance without accessories like watches and jewelry to avoid injuring others.
We dance barefoot (or with socks) to be grounded, bringing us more fully into the present moment of who we actually are.
And, last and critically important, we dance with [CARE]:
Consent: to ensure in advance that others welcome any physical contact with you;
Awareness and Respect: to honor everyone’s autonomy and right of self-expression; and
Empathy: to move without judgment for ourselves or others, with peace and love for everyone in our hearts.
Timing:
6:00 pm – The doors open for spontaneous volunteers who are drawn to help clean and purify the space.
6:30 pm – Warm up music (it's a playful mix to get us ready for the dance).
7:00 pm – Opening Circle, followed by the main dance. The dance itself is about 90 minutes.
9:00 pm (approx.) - Closing Circle (and if the group feels called, I want to suggest ending with an Angel Walk, where we could give to each other at the end of this Christmas the gift ifseeing and appreciating each other with words of affirmation).
