On December 22 at 10 a.m., join us for our Fourth Sunday of Advent as we present a Christmas Cantata created by our Poet-in-Residence Tina Datsko de Sánchez and Composer-in-Residence Curtis Heard. First performed in 2014, making this the tenth anniversary of its premiere, "Immanuel: God Within and Among Us" features a progressive take on the Christmas story, which emphasizes God's radically-inclusive love for all people. There are six movements, each one presenting insights into the miracle of Christmas from differing perspectives - the Mother, Father, Donkey, Shepherds, Scholars from the East, and the Star each convey the message in their own words, speaking truths that still resonate today. “Immanuel” will feature the Sanctuary Choir, soloists, the mighty Möller, our powerful Steinway, and a string quartet, directed by Curtis Heard.
Following Worship, there will be a Wassail reception in the Koinonia Room and a Christmas Gift market of Fair-Trade Items along with books and greeting cards from the Board of Cultural Arts. The greeting cards will feature “Love is more outrageous than you can imagine,” a line from Swimming in God by Poet in Residence Tina Datsko de Sánchez. Copies of Tina’s four-book series of poetry inspired by Rumi and Hafiz published by The Pilgrim Press—Swimming in God, Dancing through Fire, Drinking Pure Light, and Singing Fierce Gratitude—will be available for purchase and signing. Proceeds from book sales support continuing programs of the Board of Cultural Arts.
