The Christmas Bird Count is a long standing tradition and data collection endeavor, hosted by the National Audubon Society and locally coordinated by the Five Valleys Audubon Society. This year we have been invited to participate at the Maclay Flats count on December 14th at 9am. Maclay Flats is a hotspot for bird diversity in the Missoula area, and a great place to spot owls!
In years past the count has lasted 5+ hours, but you are free to come and go as you please. Pit toilet restrooms are available in the parking lot. The walking path is unpaved and uneven, but generally wide and flat. We will have binoculars and snacks to share!
