Every year, thousands of birders across North America volunteer to count birds for the Audubon Society's Christmas Bird Count. Known as the first and oldest community science project, this winter bird census, has provided data for scientists, conservationists, and land managers for over a century. On December 14th, Seven Islands State Birding Park, will participate in the Christmas Bird Count. We are partnering with Ijams Nature Center to organize volunteers to collect data in a 15-mile circle that includes much of East Knox County. We will kick off the day with guided bird counts throughout the park. Participants with any level of birding experience or interest are invited to join the rangers to see how many birds we can observe and learn about the history of the Christmas Bird Count.
There is no cost for participation. We will meet at 9:00 AM at the Bluebird Barn. Please come prepared to hike approximately 3 miles. Bring sturdy shoes, water, field guides (optional) and binoculars*
Contact Ranger Clare at [email protected] with any questions.
*Binoculars will be available to borrow if needed.
