Christmas Eve, 1988. New York cop John McClane (Bruce Willis) arrives in Los Angeles with the aim of reconciling with his estranged wife, Holly (Bonnie Bedelia). However, when the Christmas party of her employer, the Nakatomi Corporation, is disrupted by a group of heavily armed criminals led by the charismatic Hans Gruber (Alan Rickman), McClane begins a one-man war against the hostage takers.
Featuring a delightfully villainous performance from Alan Rickman – his feature film debut – Die Hard has defied debate to establish itself as a stone-cold Christmas classic.
