About this Event
The LP features songs penned at home and recorded in Ottawa Ontario at Little Bullhorn Productions. Christine says being immersed in the studio with Dave Draves while she worked part-time as a frontline mental health worker helped her manage emotions, and refuel her tank with beautiful music. Performing with guitarist Fred Guignion regularly before and after the pandemic, all songs could be captured live off the floor in the studio. Capturing guitar & vocal takes without re-recording gives the album the sound a live show would offer. "It makes a stronger connection with the listener" says Graves, embracing imperfections and bare bones production. Leaving the simple lyric and melody to tell her stories, Graves and Draves began to hear a full length album in the collection of songs. The new release Everyday Live, is available on CD and vinyl plus all major streaming sites. Draves plays accordion, piano, vibes, organ and bass on the eleven tracks. Jennifer Noxon joins one track on vocals. Christine's nephew Luke Graves adds drums on two tracks.
With the release, Christine is returning to performing, and touring; the kind of immersion in music she last had in 2006. Christine has been listed for the Ontario Arts Council KM Hunter award and won the Ottawa song contest in 2017 "Songs of Protest, Songs of Hope". She has toured internationally with world music a capella group Malaika; solo or with her band, Graves criss-crossed Canada from 1997 to 2002, performing in festivals, house concerts and small or large music series. Her fourth release, Wreckless Daughter, was recorded by Draves. Ross Murray and Ian Lefeuvre recorded a total of three LP's of music with Graves starting in 1995.
What kind of music? Heart on sleeve contemporary folk introspection, cross pollinated with inflections of jazz and pop, all ground Graves' quirky word play. Be ready to laugh, think and cry as she delivers these songs in a down to earth performance style with a remarkable voice. Graves continues to grow and learn her craft and can be considered a strong Canadian musical voice.
