What can 400 years and a lineage spanning 14 generations teach us about resilience, identity, and the American experience? Join us for a conversation with Christine B. Emmanuel, celebrating The Westcott Story: The Enduring Spirit of an American Family Spanning 400 Years, Volumes I and II.
About the Book:
This sweeping biography brings to life the illustrious “Westcotts” who have shaped our nation’s course since the Winthrop Fleet set sail for America.
The Westcott Story: The Enduring Spirit of an American Family Spanning 400 Years, Volume I and II, follows the migratory path of the Westcotts and kin from England, France, and Germany to six of the Thirteen Colonies and, eventually, to the Territory of Florida and westward. The author weaves European and American history into the narrative of her matrilineage across 14 generations.
Among countless others, Emmanuel’s chronicle features the fascinating accounts of the legendary “James Diament Westcott” father-and-son pair of Tallahassee fame. The families gain stature in the company of historically significant figures across the ages. Captivating stories of witchcraft, piracy, duels, espionage, defamation, and perjury come into play even as the Westcotts assert influence in spiritual, civic, military, business, legal, journalistic, and scientific circles.
Featuring men and women in equal measure, The Westcott Story embodies the enduring spirit and value of cultural icons in every phase of America’s history. The saga is a compelling read for anyone interested in our national heritage, genealogy, authentic human-interest stories, and the ties that bind us.
About the Author:
A Pensacola, Florida, resident recognized for technical writing and journalistic excellence, Emmanuel is a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, an alumna of both Saint Mary’s College, Notre Dame, Indiana, and Florida State University, Tallahassee, and a member of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. She retired from a 33-year career in corporate administration and communications in 2017. Her credits include editing Working a Better Way: A Fifty Year History of LandrumHR ©2020 by Pensacola businessman and FSU graduate H. Britt Landrum, Jr. You can find out more about Christine by visiting her website at https://www.christinebemmanuel.com/.
