About this Event
Square One is proud to invite you to the dual opening receptions for Christina Gschwantner's solo exhibition "All I Want" & Pepi Erdbories's solo exhibition "Have You Ever Wondered How We Met?". Opening at Square One Gallery Friday, April 3rd from 6-9pm.
Christina Gschwantner: All I Want
Christina Gschwantner is a Vienna-based painter whose work explores the tension between gesture and structure. Drawing from both Art Informel and Minimal Art, her practice combines instinctive, physical mark-making with a controlled compositional framework. Broad, gestural strokes of paint are set within ordered arrangements, creating a visual language where spontaneity and precision operate in parallel. Her paintings balance these opposing forces, allowing each to remain distinct while functioning as part of a cohesive whole.
All I Want brings together a body of recent paintings that emphasize color, rhythm, and repetition. Across the exhibition, gestural marks interact within structured systems, creating compositions that feel both immediate and measured. Repetition and variation establish a sense of order, while shifts in scale, density, and placement introduce movement and tension. Color operates with clarity, moving between tonal subtlety and high-contrast relationships that activate the surface.
Pepi Erdbories: Have You Ever Wondered How We Met?
Pepi Erdbories is a German contemporary artist whose work exists at the intersection of text, painting, and sculpture. Her practice centers on language as a lived and emotional experience, where words move beyond communication into physical and spatial form. Blending abstraction with handwritten text, she creates works that resist fixed interpretation, instead opening a shared space where individual experience and collective emotion intersect. At the center of the exhibition is her Love Letter Sculpture series, where hand-formed clay objects, painted and framed in acrylic glass, translate the intimacy of written correspondence into sculptural presence. These works emphasize the immediacy of handwriting and the presence of touch, embedding themes of love, longing, and memory directly into material.
Alongside these sculptures, the exhibition presents paintings and sculptural works that expand on the act of writing as both expression and restraint. Realistically rendered letters and the Unsent Sculptures series explore the tension between what is communicated and what remains withheld, where fragments of text and form suggest hesitation, vulnerability, and emotional complexity. Across the exhibition, language is approached as a system shaped by both presence and absence, inviting viewers to engage not only with what is read, but with what is felt. Have You Ever Wondered How We Met? positions Erdbories’ work within a contemporary dialogue around text and materiality, offering a body of work that is both visually precise and emotionally resonant.
