Chris P. James is the longtime frontman and bandleader of The Burrito Brothers, torchbearers of the Flying Burrito Brothers’ country‑rock legacy. Born and raised in Wichita, Kansas, he studied journalism at Kansas State University before pursuing music full time. A singer, keyboardist, guitarist, and harmonica player, he first worked with the Burrito Brothers in the mid‑1980s on a Gram Parsons tribute, gradually becoming part of the group’s extended family. In 2009 he was asked to assemble a new incarnation of the band, securing trademark rights and stepping in as lead vocalist and primary organizer. Under his leadership, The Burrito Brothers have continued to record and tour, releasing new albums that honor Parsons’ vision while adding James’s songwriting voice to the canon of Americana and country‑rock.
