a OG of Gracie Jiu jitsu, he was there at the beginning when the Gracies hit LA. "It was Rorian, Rickson and Royce and I would skate down a few blocks to the Rorian's Garage and take $20 privates with them." Prof Chris Received his blackbelt for the Gracies cousin Master Rigan Machado in December 1996 making him one of the first to get a blackbelt in Gracie Jiu Jitsu outside Brazil. He was something like #4 or #5.
He was a mat rat, taking challenges matches and even being called up to roll with Chuck Norris when Chuck was rolling for his Purple belt (yes Chris arm barred Chuck Norris). Prof Chris coined the term of combat base and made other innovations in BJJ.
Prof Chris was a former US Marine, LA Police Officer and even got the call to teach in Afghanistan to the US Marines. He has taught all over the world and was instrumental in taking Jiu Jitsu to the UK.
A former competitor with a great success record. Chris often has high students and Professor visits the Combat Base Garage in Rendondo Beach LA. The likes of Connor McGregor, Rigan Machado, Clarke Gracie , Megaton Diaz, Matt Thornton to name a few and a myriad of blackbelts from all over the world. A regular referee at Worlds and Metamoris events.
