About this Event

Saturday, September 12: Conference at Concord Church
You spend your life caring for others. This space was created to care for you.
Chosen is a restorative gathering created specifically for Black mental health professionals and helping professionals who spend their days supporting the emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being of others.
In a profession where burnout, isolation, and compassion fatigue are common, Chosen offers something different: a space to pause, reconnect, learn, and receive.
Over two days, you'll experience meaningful conversations, evidence-informed workshops, restorative wellness experiences, and authentic community with fellow Black clinicians who understand both the work and the unique experiences of serving our communities. Together, we'll explore the intersection of faith, mental health, identity, and culturally responsive care while investing in your own well-being.

Workshop Descriptions
Integrative Care in Practice: Bridging Faith, Research, and Realities
Info: This session explores what it means to practice integrative care within faith-based communities, attending to both theological commitments and clinical best practices. Participants will engage current research, academic formation, and on-the-ground realities, while also navigating tensions that arise when frameworks or data seem to conflict. The workshop offers tools for thoughtful, grounded integration that is both faithful and informed.
Neurodivergence and Care for Children: Expanding Our Capacity to Respond
Info: This workshop centers the diverse needs of neurodivergent children and the role of practitioners in creating responsive, supportive environments. Participants will gain insight into neurodiversity-informed care, with attention to both family systems and community contexts. The session invites a reimagining of care that moves beyond accommodation toward genuine understanding and inclusion.
Rethinking Relationships: Expanding the Lens of Marriage and Family Therapy
Info: This session broadens traditional approaches to marriage and family therapy by exploring the full spectrum of human relationships—interpersonal, intrapersonal, communal, and beyond. Participants will consider how to engage conversations around relationships in ways that are inclusive of those who are unmarried or without children. The workshop offers a more expansive and nuanced framework for understanding connection, belonging, and relational health.
Gendered Experiences in Practice: Navigating Identity, Power, and Care
Info: This workshop examines how gender shapes both the experience and delivery of care in professional and ministry contexts. Participants will reflect on the ways identity, power, and social location influence interactions, expectations, and outcomes. This session creates space for honest engagement and equips practitioners with tools to navigate gendered dynamics with greater awareness and sensitivity.
