Join Polaris of Choirs for Change for a concert highlighting themes of woman's labour and music by femme composers and singer-songwriters!
About this Event

Featuring Choirs for Change's ECMA-nominated choir Polaris, They Are Mother uses choral music to explore themes of women’s labour and prominently features the work of women composers, singer-songwriters and poets. The concert program includes contemporary choral pieces, “They Are Mother” by Jennifer Lucy Cook and “The Imaginary Garden” by Marie-Claire Saindon, and choral arrangements of pop musicians, such as ‘Labour” by Paris Paloma*, “Fast Car” by Tracy Chapman, and “This Woman’s Work” by Kate Bush.

In addition to the concert program, this event will feature a market of local femme vendors and local non-profit organization Wellness Within. Audiences will be able to browse the market before and after the concert presentation. There will also be a 50/50 raffle in support of Wellness Within at both concerts.

A limited number of tickets will also be available to purchase at the door, with a Pay-What-You-Can option for those that require accessible pricing.

Unavailable on Saturday, May 11th? Join us on Sunday, May 12th at 3:00 pm; tickets available .

About our Collaborator:

Wellness Within is a volunteer-based registered non-profit organization that serves women, transgender, and nonbinary people who have experienced criminalization and are pregnant or have young children in Nova Scotia, part of the unceded and unsurrendered ancestral territory of the Mi'kmaq people. We are doulas, nurses, midwives, physicians, social workers, lawyers, students, policymakers, researchers, writers, educators, and mentors who have experienced criminalization firsthand. We are a feminist, anti-racist, anti-poverty, pro-LGBTQ2S+, pro-inclusion organization.

Wellness Within supports people through the full spectrum of reproductive health experience; facilitates workshops and education sessions; develops resource materials; and advocates for reproductive justice issues.
