🎠Little Theatre of Norfolk đźŽpresents CHOIR BOY AUDITIONS!
Audition Dates:
November 4 & 5, 7-9 PM
Callbacks (by invitation only) on November 6, 7-9 PM
Audition Requirements:
Prepare a 1-minute contemporary monologue.
Sing 30 seconds to 1 minute of a song from any genre. Vocal performance is critical, particularly for the role of Pharus Jonathan Young, which prefers a tenor voice.
An intimacy coordinator will be present throughout the rehearsal process to ensure the safety and comfort of the cast, especially during scenes requiring emotional or physical closeness.
Additionally, we are casting three ensemble members, who will also serve as understudies for principal roles. These ensemble members will be vital to the production, contributing vocally and dramatically to group scenes while stepping in for lead characters if necessary. This is a great opportunity for performers who wish to showcase their versatility and be involved in various aspects of the show.
Play Synopsis:
Choir Boy, written by Tarell Alvin McCraney, follows Pharus Jonathan Young, a talented but effeminate student at the prestigious Charles R. Drew Prep School for Boys. Chosen to lead the school’s acclaimed gospel choir, Pharus struggles to gain acceptance and respect from his peers due to his sexual identity. The play explores themes of masculinity, race, and conformity through gospel music, as Pharus searches for validation and self-acceptance within a rigid and often hostile environment.
