"Celebrate Chinese art — explore the beauty of ink and watercolour."
About this Event

"Enrol by 19th July and save 5% on your course fee — no code needed!"

Art is a wonderful way to relax, be mindful, and enjoy some creative time. In this workshop, you’ll explore the style of traditional Chinese painting using watercolour and ink.

This friendly, hands-on session is perfect for anyone interested in Chinese art or keen to try painting with ink and watercolour.

You’ll be introduced to two key styles of Chinese painting:

  • Xieyi (freehand): expressive, loose brushwork focusing on movement and feeling
  • Gongbi (meticulous): detailed and precise, with careful, controlled brushwork

You’ll also explore traditional subjects such as landscapes, flowers and birds, and simple figurative work, with guidance throughout to help you create your own piece.

What materials do l need?

Traditional rise paper is the perfect choice (good quality watercolour paper is a great alternative), bamboo or wooden Chinese brushes (or similar to these), ink, watercolour paints, few empty jars for water and some kitchen paper.

Throughout July, we’re running a series of art workshops exploring a range of artists and different creative techniques. See below for dates, or get in touch to find out more.

We also offer a wider programme of longer courses, available both daytime and in the evening—contact us for full details.
