Demonstration and taster workshop of Inner painting on Chinese glass snuff bottles (In English)
Traditional inner painting techniques of Chinese snuff bottles have developed over more than 200 years into a popular form of Chinese folk art, often based on glass snuff bottles with painted decoration on the inside.
In the workshop, participants can learn about techniques making Chinese snuff bottles and try the artist Jianyong’s new techniques in creation of contemporary glass artworks.
*No prior experience is needed.

中国内画的传统技艺已有两百多年的发展历史,逐渐成为广受欢迎的中国民间艺术形式。这种艺术通常以玻璃鼻烟壶为载体,在器物内部进行绘画装饰。
在本次工作坊中,参与者将了解中国鼻烟壶的制作与内画技法,并尝试艺术家高建勇在当代玻璃艺术创作中的创新技法。

About Jianyong Guo
Jianyong Guo is a glass artist, sculptor, professor of China Shandong University of Art and Design. He was awarded a PhD in University of Sunderland (The National Glass Centre) of the UK in 2016. He obtained a master's degree in sculpture from the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing in 2007. Now he lives in the UK and China. His research mainly focuses on contemporary innovation on the basis of inheriting the traditional techniques of inside painting of Chinese snuffs, and interprets the methods of internal and external harmony in his works from the perspective of traditional Chinese Yin and Yang philosophy, it expresses that opposite forces are actually complementary to each other. His research not only promotes the cultural inheritance of inside painting of Chinese snuff bottles, but also brings new ideas to the creation of contemporary glass art.His research has been participated in many important international art exhibitions and he has been invited to do oral presentations at many international glass conferences. Many of his research articles have also been published in some important international journals. His inside-painted glass sculptures are widely collected in important art museums, galleries and personal collections around the world.
