About this Event
Chinatown Today is bringing three free film screenings to Chinatown this fall at Massy Arts Society (23 East Pender)! While the days might be getting shorter and the weather getting rainier, we still want to provide opportunities for building intercultural and intergenerational relationships through our free community events! Bring popcorn, or better yet, local snacks from Chinatown (think haw flakes or buns from New Town) and join us on the first Fridays of September, October, and November for Fall Movie Nights!

Film Line-Up
September 6: Everything Will Be (2014)
Local filmmaker Julia Kwan’s documentary, Everything Will Be celebrates ten years this year. The film captures Chinatown in flux, a crossroads for our community’s cultural and physical landscapes. While the Chinatown of a decade ago might not look all that much like Chinatown today, we still face many of the same issues and share the same passion for our community.
October 4: Chungking Express (1994)
With unforgettable imagery of pre-handover Hong Kong and an iconic soundtrack, Wong Kar Wai’s 1994 film expresses the bittersweet emotion of lost connections and the fleeting nature of relationships. With two loosely intersecting stories linked in part by a snack counter, Chungking Express reminds us of the overlapping relationships with place here in Chinatown, and the difficulties of change.
November 8: Local Short Film Showcase
For the finale of this fall series, we’re honoured to be able to highlight 6 short films created by local Asian-Canadian filmmakers, followed by a brief panel discussion:
