Children’s Champion Award Celebration
About this Event
Please join Youth Forward for our second annual Children’s Champion Award Celebration on Thursday, October 8th from 6 to 8 pm at the Tsakopoulos Library Galleria in downtown Sacramento.
At this year’s event, we will recognize an organizational champion for children and youth and a youth leader. This year we are celebrating the Sacramento Fire Department and Lozen Miranda Brightman. The Sacramento Fire Department team that manages the Sacramento EMS Corps program is a dynamic group of leaders who are assisting young adults in our community to become prepared to enter careers as emergency medical technicians, firefighters and health workers. To date, the Sac EMS Corps has provided training and life supports to over 60 young adults, with a focus on young adults who have been impacted by foster care, homelessness, and/or the criminal justice system. Lozen Miranda Brightman is a student at The Met High School, an enrolled member of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe, and a leader in Youth Forward’s tribal youth group in North Sacramento. Over the last few years, she has helped create a community garden to promote food sovereignty and has led the campaign to remove the stereotypical, harmful image for the Hiram Johnson High School mascot. We applaud the leadership of these individuals and celebrate their remarkable efforts in support of young people.
Event attire is business casual.
Food and drinks will be served. More details to come.
