Children with an IEP transitioning to adulthood
About this Event
Transition to Adulthood Workshop Series
Presented by Marine Corps Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP)
As children with special needs grow into adolescence and adulthood, families are faced with important decisions related to education, healthcare, financial planning, and long-term support. The Transition to Adulthood Workshop Series is designed to equip military families with the knowledge, tools, and resources needed to confidently navigate this critical stage of life.
This comprehensive series covers essential topics including guardianship and conservatorship, Special Needs Trusts, Survivor Benefit Plan considerations, TRICARE navigation, permanent dependency, and the transition process for youth with IEPs. Families will gain a clear understanding of legal, medical, and educational systems, as well as practical strategies to ensure continuity of care, financial security, and appropriate services as their child transitions into adulthood.
These workshops are especially valuable for families preparing for major transition milestones, including aging out of school-based services and moving into adult healthcare and support systems. Participants will have the opportunity to learn from knowledgeable EFMP professionals and connect with resources that support long-term planning and success.
This event will be held virtually via Microsoft Teams. Registered participants will receive the access link and joining instructions via email prior to the event.
