Having a baby is one of the most significant experiences of your life and Doctors Medical Center is thrilled to share this remarkable time with you and your growing family.In the months before delivery there is much to learn about your developing baby, changes in your body, childbirth and caring for your newborn. DMC encourages you to enroll in our childbirth education classes; developed to help you prepare for your birthing experience, the care and feeding of your baby, and much more.
CHILDBIRTH EDUCATION SERIES
Our three class series is comprised of two-hour sessions designed to examine the physical changes you can anticipate during pregnancy, labor, delivery and after giving birth. You will learn about hospital and nursery procedures, anesthesia and medications. Coping strategies for labor and birth, and newborn care are also included. Please wear comfortable clothing. $65 for complete series.
The series starts the first Wednesday of each month from 6-8 p.m. at the Doctors Medical Center McHenry Conference Center, 1445 McHenry Avenue.
CLASS 1: What Should I Expect in the Beginning?
• Body changes
• Nutrition and exercise
• Fetal growth
• Signs and symptoms of preterm labor
• Certain medical conditions you should be aware of
• Breathing and relaxation techniques
• When to call the doctor and when you should come to the hospital
• What to expect if you are in early labor
• How to prepare for the upcoming weeks of pregnancy
CLASS 2: Birth, Here I Come!
• Breathing and relaxation techniques continued
• Pain management: epidural vs IV pain medications
• Birthing process
• Pushing process
• Natural labor, vaginal delivery and C-sections
• Labor preferences and birth plan
CLASS 3: Baby’s Here, Now We’re on Our Way Home!
• Care of your newborn
• Breastfeeding
• Postpartum care
• Going home
• Postpartum depression
• Newborn appearance and testing
