Chico Haunted Tour
About this Event
You’ve been asking us for months when Haunted Tour tickets go on sale. Here’s your answer: October 1!
Last year’s tours sold out quickly, so this year we’ve decided to make the whole thing bigger. Rather than running small tours throughout the month, we’re doing one BIG night of Chico Haunted Tours on Friday, October 30.
This is not your average history tour.
You’ll walk through Downtown Chico after dark, stopping at historic locations where you’ll meet characters from Chico’s past. Each has a story to tell: ghost stories, local lore, strange happenings, and some of the darker corners of Chico’s history.
Tours leave every 15 minutes from 7:00–9:00 p.m., with only 20 people in each group. Each tour takes about an hour and covers roughly 0.7 miles at a leisurely pace, so you’ll have plenty of time to soak in the history (and watch the shadows).
There are only 180 tickets for the entire night. Last year we sold out, so if you want to come, don’t wait too long.

Please arrive a few minutes before your scheduled tour time. Tours leave on time—the ghosts won’t wait.
Wear comfortable walking shoes and dress for the weather. Chico nights can get chilly in late October—especially when you’re standing around waiting for a ghost—so a light jacket is a good idea.
How scary is it?
Our goal is to give you chills, not nightmares.
The stories are spooky, mysterious, and based in Chico history. The characters can be spooky, too. But there are no jump scares or staged frights. Nobody is going to leap out from behind a building and chase you down the street. The fun comes from hearing these stories in the places where they happened, at night, with Downtown Chico as the backdrop.
We recommend the tour for ages 12 and up, and all minors must be accompanied by an adult. Some of the stories may be unsettling for younger kids.
And yes, it’s for a good cause.
All proceeds from Chico Haunted Tours go to the El Rey Theater 501(c)(3), which is raising money to purchase and restore Chico’s historic El Rey Theatre.
So come get a little creeped out, learn some weird Chico history, and help us save the El Rey while you’re at it.
