About this Event

This course aims to teach how to ferment and enjoy this elixir of life, Chicha de Maíz, through exploring various disciplines. Together, we will learn about Chicha by delving into indigenous cosmovisions, art, history, myths, biology, and gastronomy. The workshop centers around recognizing Maíz (corn) and its role in culture and well-being.

The workshop consists of 4 sessions. All sessions will take place in-person at Sol Collective in Sacramento. We will provide all the materials necessary for cooking your Chicha.

In this course, you are going to learn:

  • How to ferment Chicha de Maíz in your house
  • Simple recipes to experiment with the flavors of your Chicha de Maïz
  • The chemistry and science behind corn fermentation
  • The relationship between Maíz, Chicha de Maiz, and art
  • The history of the Andean peoples from different perspectives
  • The importance of corn in culture, well-being, and ecology
  • The relationship of Chicha de Maíz with the construction of more peaceful societies.

This course is for people of all ages with or without fermenting experience.
