We are excited to present for the first time in Budapest:CHICAGO FOOTWORK WORKSHOP WITH MARTINA
“In this session, we’ll go through the basics of Chicago Footwork and the key tools you need to start using them in your freestyle rounds. We’ll learn a combo that teaches you fundamental patterns and transitions within the style. I’ll also show you videos, share stories and knowledge from Chicago, and introduce you to some of the legendary footworkers and crews who helped shape this powerful culture. And on top of it all—we’ll go crazy at the party! Let’s werk and have some fuuuuun."
Chicago footwork emerged in the mid-1990s on the city’s West and South sides. Artists like RP Boo and DJ Rashad developed footwork’s distinctive style through intense footwork and unconventional sound patterns, characterised by fast tempos around 160 BPM and competitive dance movements at the core. Musicians initially experimented with tricky rhythms to confuse their opponents, giving rise to the genre’s signature sound and iconic moves such as the ghost, dribble, and skate. Footwork culture grew out of the struggles of Chicago’s African American communities and has since become a global phenomenon, inspiring dancers and producers around the world.
