After an affair gone wrong, Roxie Hart (Renée Zellweger) gets sentenced to death row where she meets her idol, vaudeville performer Velma Kelly (Catherine Zeta-Jones). There, the murderesses develop a fierce rivalry competing for publicity, their next big performance, and the attention of Chicago’s hottest sleazebag lawyer, Billy Flynn (Richard Gere), to keep them from the gallows.
