About this Event

Join the Chicago Degrowth Book Club this fall for a deep dive into Braiding Sweetgrass! Published in 2013, Braiding Sweetgrass is a collection of essays about indigenous and scientific teachings on nature. Author Robin Wall Kimmerer is a botanist, poet, mother, professor, and member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation; she draws upon each of these identities in Braiding Sweetgrass.

Below are the details for this fall’s book club:

  • Book club is a three-part series. We will meet on September 17th (Preface, Planting Sweetgrass, Tending Sweetgrass: pages ix-120), October 15th (Picking Sweetgrass, Braiding Sweetgrass: pages 121-302), and November 19th (Burning Sweetgrass, Epilogue: pages 303-384).
  • Location is Comfort Station, right by the Logan Square blue line stop . Each meeting is 90 minutes.
  • We will cultivate a non-judgmental space where we allow for curiosity and a diversity of thoughts.
  • Participants can expect discussions around the fundamental degrowth concepts that appear in Braiding Sweetgrass. No formal knowledge of degrowth is expected - all are welcome!

We look forward to seeing you!
