Chhondo 2025 is a memorable cultural extravaganza with purpose and heart presented by Rotary Club of Calcutta Pointers. Members of this unique club, residing across the globe, lend their time, knowledge, resources and professional expertise to improve local communities through service-based projects and all proceeds from ticket sales are used in community development and upliftment of economically disadvantaged women and children through health, education and vocational support. "Chhondo", meaning Rhythm, is our annual public fundraiser in support of these initiatives.   The Lineup “Aurat” - the opening dance movement narrative by young artists of Bondhu Collective presents a dynamic and emotive interpretation of Safdar Hashmi and Rakesh Saxena’s powerful and thought-provoking play which celebrates women's struggles and strengths and challenges patriarchal norms and societal expectations. Musical lineup includes vocalist and playback singers Gourab Sarkar and Payel Kar for a mesmerizing musical night to remember.  Gourab Sarkar who won the Mirchi Music award for “Best Vocalist, Best Composer and Best Lyricist” in 2023 for his original song "Abhimaan", is a renowned artist who has performed close to 1000 concerts globally, and featured as a playback singer in movies such as Tonic, Projapoti, Hacker, Jeena, and others. He was presented the “Golden Chain" by none other than the legendary Bappi Lahiri. Payel Kar, a star vocalist at Doordarshan, currently under the tutelage of Vidushi Subhra Guha, is admired by audiences in India and abroad for her songs by Rabindranath, Nazrul and Atulprasad. Originally trained in Indian classical music, Payel is known for her songs Tomar Bondhu and Swapnomakha Gaan, popular several years after their release, and has been featured as a playback singer in films such as Iti Srikanta directed by Anjan Das.
